How to dye Hair Extensions Honey Blonde | Go Sleek Half Wig Tutorial

I get asked all the time, “Mo, how do you color your hair extensions blonde?” or “What color is your Go Sleek half wig?” I’m breaking it down step by step so you can see exactly how I, Mo — Go Sleek’s founder, color my Go Sleek Half Wig to achieve this dimensional honey/caramel blonde and brown look.

This tutorial includes the exact products, processing times, and techniques I use, plus my full video so you can follow along.

What You’ll Need to Color Hair Extensions Blonde

Here are the exact products and tools I recommend:

  •  Pravana Power Lightener + 40 Volume Developer
  • Pravana ChromaSilk 10.1 Light Ash Blonde + 40 Volume Developer
  •  Pravana Ash Toner + 20 Volume Developer
  •  Foil sheets — must-have for sectioning and processing highlights
  •  Wig head + tripod (for half wigs)
  •  Go Sleek Hair Holder (for clip-ins and bundles)
  •  Mixing bowl, brush, gloves

Wigs Featured in the Video

For clarity, here’s exactly what I’m using and wearing in the tutorial:

Coloring:        16” Kinky Straight Half Wig (available in multiple lengths)

Wearing:        Deep Curly Half Wig — This unit started at 16 inches, but I cut, colored and straightened it for the look you see in the video.

This lets you see both the coloring process and how versatile Go Sleek Hair Extensions can be once styled.

Step 1: How to Lighten Hair Extensions for Highlights

I begin by sectioning the 16” Kinky Straight Half Wig on a wig head and applying Pravana Power Lightener mixed with 40 volume developer in foils. This creates brightness and dimension instead of a flat blonde.

⏱ Timing: 10–15 minutes.

⚠️ Never leave color unattended — just like cooking, we don’t want to fry the extensions! 🍳💇🏽♀️

💡 Pro Tip: Gentle heat can speed up processing but use with caution to avoid over-processing.

Step 2: Applying Blonde Base Color to a Go Sleek Half Wig

While the highlights are lifting, I apply Pravana 10.1 Light Ash Blonde mixed with 40 volume developer to the rest of the wig. Even though the shade is labeled “Light Ash Blonde,” don’t worry — since we’re starting from a dark natural color, it will not lift to a pale blonde. Instead, this is the correct formula to create the soft brown base that balances beautifully against the brighter highlights.

⏱ Timing: 20–30 minutes.

⚠️ Think of this like baking — don’t walk away or you’ll overcook your bundles. 🍰✨

💡 Pro Tip: If you don’t want to color the entire wig, you can leave 2–3 inches of the roots dark. This will create an ombré effect or give the appearance that the color has naturally “grown out.”

Step 3: Rinse in Stages

Once the highlights reach the brightness I want, I rinse those sections first. The base color is allowed to finish processing if needed. Then the entire wig is washed gently to prep for toner.

Step 4: Using Toner to Fix Orange and Yellow Undertones in Extensions

Next, I mix Pravana Ash Toner with 20 volume developer and apply it to cancel out the orange and yellow undertones. This step is what creates the soft honey/caramel dimensional blonde finish.

⏱ Timing: 5–7 minutes.

⚠️ Don’t walk away — toner works fast, and we’re not trying to serve up green tea extensions. 💚😂

Step 5: Final Rinse & Blow Dry

After toning, I rinse thoroughly, blow dry, and style. The 16” Kinky Straight Half Wig now has a rich, dimensional blonde and brown finish with honey and caramel tones.

A Note on Color Variations

Sometimes my color may appear lighter or darker in different videos or photos. This is usually because of:

  1. Lighting (ring light vs natural sunlight)
  2. Placement of highlights (sometimes I had more highlights)
  3. Processing time — sometimes I let it process longer than others
  4. Different hair extension types — extensions may lift slightly differently based upon if it’s virgin hair or raw hair. Go sleek extensions is virgin human hair.

But I always use the same exact color, formula, and toner

Pro tip: At times, I’ll also use a blue or purple shampoo (like Shimmer Lights) to cool the tone and reduce warmth. That can also make the color appear less golden and more neutral depending on when I filmed.
